Story:
In ancient times, humans and animals were one and the same. There was no distinction. At that time, the sisters Wituk and Manduru went through difficult times. In their quest for healing, they became something different, so the older sister became the Wituk tree to give life and energy to people who were sick or sad; while the younger sister became Manduru to give life and be able to heal.
For us, the Wituk painting is just that: a painting that gives us energy, that gives us life and that gives us the will to go on living. It is used for people who are sick or sad. We paint ourselves when we have festivities and even in situations of struggle, assemblies or meetings, because it is something that strengthens us. It is not about the aesthetic beauty of the painting and its forms, but about how it makes us feel and the energy it gives us; from strength and wisdom, to the empowerment of the Wituk woman who transformed herself - despite all the situations she went through and the difficulties she experienced - into a healing tree, into a fruit that gives energy and gives life to people,' she says.

The ancestral practice of Wituk stems from ancient times, when human beings and animals were one; there was no distinction. Back then, the sisters Wituk and Manduru were going through difficult times. In their quest for healing, they were transformed. The older sister became a Wituk tree to give life and energy to people; while the younger sister became a Manduru which also supports life and has healing properties.
The application of the pigment reflects the transformation of the Wituk woman who—despite all the situations that had befallen her and the difficulties she had experienced—became a healing tree, providing fruit that gives energy and life to people.
In honor of all Wituk women
