"The Whispering Stone Wall" – A Story of Silence and Transformation

Deep in the heart of an ancient forest, where time moves slower and the earth breathes in hushed tones, stands a stone wall—weathered, wise, and full of secrets. It has endured centuries, shaped by wind and water, offering refuge to countless creatures. Yet, this wall is more than just stone—it is a reminder of nature’s resilience, a silent sanctuary for those willing to listen.

As an artist, I have always been drawn to the forest, wandering through its depths in search of hidden places. My greatest fascination has been with towering rock formations and textured stone walls, trying to understand how the earth captures and reflects colors. Whenever I stumbled upon caves, I would eagerly crawl inside, seeking adventure and the mysteries held within. These memories have become part of my creative language, flowing into this painting like echoes from my past.

On its rugged surface, painted in earthy tones of beige, ochre, olive green, and deep brown, life has found its way. Four delicate mushrooms have taken root, their slender, winding stems standing as quiet symbols of impermanence and renewal. Mushrooms, the forest’s secret healers, transform the old into the new—representing growth in unexpected places and the deep interconnectedness of all living things.

Perched upon two of these mushrooms rest two vibrant blue butterflies, their wings delicate yet powerful. They embody the beauty of fleeting moments and the soul’s constant transformation. Their presence is deeply personal to me, evoking childhood memories of my birthplace, Ecuador. As a little girl, I often saw blue butterflies resting on large rocks, their shimmering wings contrasting against the earth’s muted tones. Only later did I learn that these were salt stones, and the butterflies—like many other creatures—paused there to absorb the minerals they needed to survive.

This piece, "The Whispering Stone Wall", is a tribute to those quiet, sacred places where nature reveals its poetry. It is crafted with a mixture of lime, water, acrylics, and modeling paste, giving it a raw, organic texture reminiscent of ancient rock surfaces. The delicate butterflies are sculpted from paper, while the mushrooms were carefully hand-shaped from modeling paste.
